Bogan is a name with prestige. history indicates that it originated in England. Possibly from bow makers. I am a Bogan, Will, from South Florida. My family moved here in the early 1950'sfrom New York; so not a long history. My father, George, came from New York. His father, Joseph, emigrated from Russia. I do not know if this was an Ellis Island name for immigrants. Most of our family are college graduates, and contributors to our society. Go Bogans'!!!! I'm proud of the name.

Yep, We`re from Australia.

`White trash` is a little harsh though `anon` and regarding us being thick and what we think goes on in the USA we get a daily lesson in you culture via `The Jerry Springer Show`.

Us Bogans have a high success rate in adaption (This is how a Bogan survives in the non-Bogan world around us) so you`d better watch us `cause we`ll sneak in with the humans!

I totally agree with Brenda,

GO BOGANS!!!!

Dear Friends!
Do you know what does a word ‘Bog’ mean in Russian? The English for ‘Bog’ is God! I’m really proud of my surname. I am a Bogan and I live in Moscow. There’s a lot of Bogans in Russia.
My father Arkady was born in 1945 in Belarus. His 85-old father Vladimir lives near Black Sea now. In turn his grandparents were from Scotland. My daughter’s name is Annie and I know she’ll always be a Bogan, because she likes it.
We’re happy to be a part of Boganworld.

Hi. I am trying to find out what Happened to my Great Great Grandfather Edward Bogan Born abt 1884 in Coatbridge in Scotland. His Father was James L Bogan from Donegal 1845-1903 and his mother was Mary Bogan. His brothers and sisters were: Jane, Lizzie, James, Mary-Ann, and Thomas. I have traced him to New York and then in 1917 he Joined the Canadian Expeditionary Service. If anybody can shed any light on what happened to him. His son my Great Grandfather never really new his father and never talked about him and after doing some research is seems the reason for this is that he emigrated to the US. If anybody has any information they could share it really would be appreciated.
Kind Regards
Chris Johnson from the UK.

Oh, really? said...

New Jersey Bogans:
My mother was an adopted child in Philadelphia. She was born in 1929.
Her birth mother was one Mary Ellen Quinn, who emigrated to Philadelphia in 1928, and was unmarried when she had my mother. Mary Ellen's mother was Agnes McAndrew.
The informant on Mary Ellen's death certificate (1935) was a Michael Bogan, with a New York address. I believe there was a Carabine in there somewhere, too.

I see that Agnes McAndrew-Quinn had a sister named Mary who married a John Bogan. Most of their children all seem to have eventually ended up coming to the U.S.

Do any of the Bogans on this page have any interest in the McAndrew line?
